For over 40 years, Nonantum Veterinary Clinic has proudly served Landenberg and the surrounding tri-state region with care that feels like home.
Nonantum (Non-an’-tum) is an Algonquin Native American word that means “blessing” or “prayer.” Nonantum Veterinary Clinic had its humble beginnings in 1983 when Dr. Debby Roberts began practicing out of her home on Nonantum Farm. The practice soon needed more space, and a chicken house was converted. In 1990, Dr. Chris Manning joined Nonantum and later became Dr. Roberts’ business partner in 2001. Over the years, Nonantum Veterinary Clinic has added talented doctors and staff to accommodate the community’s growing need for veterinary services. In 2008, the practice moved to a renovated barn on the same property.
From wellness visits and advanced surgery to holistic therapies, we’re here to guide you through every stage of your pet’s life with honesty, empathy, and a deep respect for the bond you share.
We’re more than just experienced; we’re invested. Many of our team members have been part of the Nonantum family for over a decade, and that consistency shows in everything we do. You’ll always be greeted by familiar faces, kind voices, and a gentle, thoughtful approach that puts pets (and people) at ease.
Dr. Colleen Stewart received her B.S. from Penn State University in Animal Sciences. She then worked for New Bolton Center’s dairy farm for a year and a half before starting veterinary school at Ross University on St. Kitts.
After a year at Ross, she transferred to a second year at the University of Penn School of Vet Medicine. In 2017, she worked as a mixed animal vet in Lancaster before transitioning to small animal medicine here at Nonantum in 2020.
Dr. Stewart grew up around the corner in New London, PA. She enjoys being outdoors, playing sports, creating artwork, and spending time with family and friends. She currently resides in Cochranville with her husband Zach, sons J.D and Liam, and pit mixes Turbo and Bob.
Dr. Charlotte Fagraeus has been a veterinarian in the local area for many years and found a home at Nonantum in 2020. She has previously been a practice owner but now gladly can focus her attention on her patients rather than running a practice! She is the proud single mom of two teenagers and a Scottish Terrier. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden and likes to visit there often, alternating with going on cruises. Doing New York Times crosswords and crafting are other favorites.
Dr. Palmer’s family has been taking their pets to Nonantum since 1988. He joined Nonantum Veterinary Clinic in 2023 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine as a second career student. With a background rooted in education and animal care, he brings a calm, practical approach to each appointment — whether that means building trust with a nervous patient or walking an owner step-by-step through a treatment plan.
His goal is always the same: to help clients feel informed, heard, and confident in the decisions they make for their pets. He’s also known around the clinic for being a reliable treat-dispensing machine when the situation calls for it.
When he’s not in the exam room, Dr. Palmer enjoys backpacking with his son and their dog, usually somewhere far enough into the woods that cell service can’t find them.
At Nonantum Veterinary Clinic, we combine traditional veterinary expertise with compassionate care and forward-thinking services that put your pet’s whole health first. We consider it our honor to serve the people and pets of our community.
We’ve been a trusted part of the Chester County community since 1983, caring for pets from Landenberg, Kennett Square, Avondale, Hockessin, and beyond. Families return to us year after year, and pet after pet, because they know we treat every animal like our own.
